Description: Канун Первой мировой войны. Окончив гимназию в Петербурге, Варя едет учить крестьянских детей. Сурово встречает юную учительницу глухая деревня. Появляется отбывающий в Сибири срок знакомый по Петербургу - большевик Мартынов. Варя выходит за него замуж, но вскоре его вновь арестовывают. После революции Мартынов погибнет на посту комиссара, ей же предстоят тяжелые испытания в борьбе с кулачеством. Завершается фильм окончанием Второй мировой войны.
